Our Mission

Peter Pan Learning Center is on a mission to provide an atmosphere for children where growing up and learning is fun! It is privately owned and operated by Sue Kruhm and has been in business since 1979. We are accredited through the Maryland State Department of Education.

We have been honored by the Office Of Children's Services with the award for "Most Family Friendly Policies" and nominated three additional years in both the Infant/Toddler and Preschool Categories. We were also honored by Howard Magazine in 2008 for "Best Day Care in Howard County" and in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 as an Honorable Mention for "Best Day Care in Howard County."

We believe that over fifty percent of their personality and learning skills are developed in the first six years of a child's life. Peter Pan intends to help your child develop his/her academic and social skills through a well-planned program with consistent guidelines. The foundation of this program is based on a highly qualified and loving staff who take the utmost pride in providing your child with the best care and education possible. We focus on making each child successful by assessing their interests and introducing them to learning in whole, small, and individual grouping.

Our center is located on 2 1/2 acres of land on a private setting directly across from parkland. We have one of the largest playground areas of any center in Howard County! Our children have opportunities to swing, climb, slide, jump, throw balls, do monkey bars, ride bikes, play in the sand, and run! We also have picnic tables for outdoor lunches on lovely spring/summer days.

We offer full-time care for children ages six weeks through 24 months and a half and full-day programs for children ages 2-5 during the school year and 2-10 during our summer camp program. Our half-day programs operate from 8:45-12:45, and our hours of operation for full-day students are 6:30-6:00. Parents can choose a schedule that best meets the needs of their children. We offer programs from as few as two days per week to as many as five days per week. Enrollment for both sessions usually begins in February of each year and continues until all positions are filled.

There is a transition program for children that do not meet the September 1st cutoff for Kindergarten entrance. This program provides the students with an additional year of academic and social growth and prevents them from repeating a traditional four-year-old program. The curriculum is based on the Kindergarten program we operated from 1989 until 2007.

The students are introduced to sight words, word families, simple readers, math concepts such as time, addition, subtraction, measurement; science concepts such as animal habitats, magnets, and shadows; and social studies concepts such as map study recycling, and the neighborhood.
